A farmer’s market serves not only as a place where people can go to buy fresh local produce, but also as an environment for social and cultural exchange where members of the community can gather and reconnect with each other. Our objective was to use computational design and digital fabrication to reinterpret the possibilities of brick masonry, giving a static material the ability to re-spond to dynamic elements such as wind, motion, and light. The design creates a versatile public space that provides the local vendors with a dynamic environment in which to showcase their pro-duce, whilst functioning as an open social space and a place of refuge during the market’s off-sea-son.
