Understanding The Challenge

The core of the challenge was “to provide new graduate students helpful and convenience information communication platform.” In order to achieve the initial goal, the design has developed into two main features: encourage students to join events and provide a mentor booking service when they need it. Therefore, providing an enjoyable and well-organized user experience for new graduates to find the right path is the key.

Interview

Each new graduate faces further confusion and problems when looking for a job. In this interview session, I interviewed a total of 5 users, 4 of them are new graduates, and the other has been graduated for a year and currently looking for a new job. During the interview section, I was focused on handing out the open questions and letting the users have enough time to explain their background. I believe being unbiased and open are the key in this phase.

Affinity Map

I quickly coded and reorganized the interview responses and realized the three significant categories were general comments, technical issues, and specific questions. Most users have at least one technical issue, like needing help with interviews or resume development. The other pain point is the specific questions related to different people's diversified backgrounds.

Persona Build

PRIMARY

Kin is graduating from Washington State University this Winter, and while at the same time she is looking forward to the brand new section of her life, she is frustrated as well. Kin does not have any networking at all besides her classmates. She has many wonders and questions, like how to get a dream job, where to start, even how to update the CV, etc. Kin would like to find some handy platforms to meet individuals in the same field who are willing to her.
